Stocks were firmly in negative territory in late-afternoon trading Friday, but there wasn't much conviction behind the selling. The Nasdaq lost 0.8% while the S&P 500 and Dow Jones industrial average gave up 0.6%. Volume on the NYSE and Nasdaq was tracking well below Thursday's levels.
